Matt has been writing and recording music professionally since 1994 when he teamed up with The Stage One Music Company.
Rebecca Ratcliffe is the singer sister of Matt Carlton. She started acting lessons when she was thirteen, singing lessons at sixteen and by eighteen continued to train in Performing Arts at The London Studio Centre.
Fire & Theft is a musical collective of three people: Matt Carlton - programming, keyboards etc, his sister Becky - vocals, and Matt Lovett - guitars and sporadic bass. Taking ambient breakbeat, rock, jazz, and a host of obscure 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s avant garde music, mixing that with a big dollop of Angelo Badalamenti and Ennio Morricone alongside that certain “can’t put your finger on it” quality will bring you at least part way to forming a mind’s ear idea of Fire + Theft.
Their first single on Narcotix Inc. “The Essential Philosophy E.P..” created quite a buzz on the “downbeat / crossover” scene, as did the follow-up offering “Shelter”.
Matt Carlton - Old hand in the studio, in - house engineer for Stage One’s happy hardcore labels (J.A.L., Stompin’ Choonz, New Sensation, & Happy Jacks), many happy hardcore releases of his own (under various tags... Justin Time, Helix, Ballistic), finds Fire + Theft to be the perfect antidote for rave-induced stress, lethargy, and headache.
Becky Carlton - Trained singer and actress (and YES dancer but not model!), numerous T.V. appearances, season with the Royal Opera Company. Once in her renowned Fire + Theft outfit she becomes her stage-self completely; charismatic, compelling, and sometimes just a little scary.
Matt Lovett - Old hand with a packet of Rizlas and half a B & H, long standing member of rock combo Cherrie Bomb, likes to make his guitar do things it wasn’t designed for, and of course when it screams; the tape starts rolling.
