Optical aka Matt Quinn, (brother of Jamie Quinn alias Matrix) started making music when 17.
Area 39 is a collaboration between legendary Drum & Bass producer Matt Quinn aka Optical and Joe Lawrence. The pair started making music together in 1994 and saw a debut release called Attitude / Flute FX on Bear Necessities.
Their styles flirted between Jungle, Drum & Bass and Jungle Techno and the two continued to release on various labels such as Vision Productions, Genetic Stress and of course, Bear Necessities for the next two years.
Area 39 made a significant impact on the jungle scene and their modest catalogue of material has been licensed to no less than 16 compilation albums to date.
