DML and its parent company Just Another Label Ltd (JAL) emerged originally in 1998 from the Stage One Music Company, where JAL had been a successful and influential dance label ever since its first release in 1993. Further information and history on JAL can be found at www.justanotherlabel.com. The DML was established specifically to offer JAL’s wealth of experience in the dance music industry to various library companies. This experience helped build the dance repertoire and credibility of companies such as The Extreme Music Library, Prime Time Productions (BMG), Carlin Music and The Ded Good Music Library (EMI).

How does the site work?

No flash intro, no complicated menus, just straightforward icons and instructions, which should be easy to understand in any language once you get used to the format.

Once you are in the search page you will see the following icons. Here’s a quick explanation of them:

• The vibe: this section allows you to search for the kind of mood you are looking for
• Tempo: this allows you to select your preferred tempo
• Instrument: this allows you to select a certain / specific lead instrument within a track
• Genre: this allows you to search for a specific style of music
• Vocal: this allows you to search for tracks with male vocals, female vocals or both

Demo

Once you have auditioned the particular track(s) you want, you simply press one of the download buttons to the right and it should download onto your computer as a low quality MP3. You are free to use the MP3 within your product to see whether it is right for the job you are working on.

License:

If it is decided that you are going to use any of the material from the site you will then have to do the following before we send you a high quality AIFF or WAVE in the post, via email or you can go to our FTP and pick it up from there. The choice is yours.

Licensees from the UK:

Please fill out our simple form once you have added the tracks you would like to license to your track list. You will need to confirm that you are a registered licensee with the MCPS by either quoting your license / ’p’ number or confirming that you hold a blanket agreement with MCPS.

Licensees from overseas:

Please email us about what you would like to license and we will get back to you as soon as we can to agree terms / confirm our fee.
